Seven Ways to Lose Five Pounds in One Week

Hi Ladies! How’s your September looking? Aren’t we all glad its finally over and we are one step closer to Winter! I know I am. I am also really looking forward to bari Eid and though we keep it simple, why ever let a chance to celebrate go. So I hope you have your beautiful clothes, shoes & looks ready for Eid & well today’s blog is going to be quite interesting for a lot of you. Considering that one of the major plagues of society today is obesity, with the epidemic growing on a day to day basis, I like to throw in a motivational blog here and there to get you ladies on your toes and keep yourself in shape. Today’s blog will do the same.

We have almost a week before Eid so I thought why not do a blog about ways to lose 5 pounds in a week! Though it might not seem like 5 pounds is really all that much, but you would be amazed at how much of a difference even cutting down 5 lbs can make. I will be telling you guys 7 great and manageable ways to cut down & start your road to looking & feeling even more fabulous.

1. Drink More Water

One of the biggest addictions these days is that of fizzy drinks, juices or anything really that is packed with sugar. What’s even worse is that people rely on diet drinks hoping they are a better alternative whereas they really are not. The only great alternative for any kind of drink, is water. Energy drinks, juices or even smoothies will pack at least 100 calories, water on the other hand packs 0. Water not only gets rid of excess water weight but it clears out your system to jump-start your metabolism. Always use water to start your day & if it gets boring just add some lemons & mint leaves.

2. 30 Minutes of Cardio a Day

Exercise is key to losing, maintaining & having a healthy, balanced lifestyle. What’s even better is you simply need 30 minutes of cardio a day to lose 5 pounds in one week. So take a 30 minute walk around the block or in a park, do a 30 minute dance or get yourself a fitness video (aerobics preferably) & vow to do 30 minutes of exercise a day for a healther, slimmer, better you! Remember, exercise doesn’t only help your body, it helps your brain as well.

3. Sleep 30 Minutes More a Night

Recent studies have shown great links between obesity & not getting enough sleep. If you are an insomniac or just have a bad schedule, then you might have to consider that this stands in your way while losing or maintaining weight loss. Even getting 30 minutes of extra sleep a day can help keep your metabolism up. Not to mention how important a routine is, doctor’s recommend sleeping and waking at the same time daily (even on weekends), especially when you are on a diet or working towards weight loss. Sleep helps your body/metabolism rest & prepare you for the next day – while helping heal you at the same time.

4. Make One Sacrifice

What is the one thing you eat on a daily basis or regularly that you know is bad for you? Cut that one basic thing out of your diet for an entire week. I know it is way harder than it sounds but you will be amazed at how much of a difference those few calories can make. It can even be as simple as limiting your sugar intake, in your tea, coffee or breakfast. It can also be as simple as cutting out that one fizzy drink that you need to have with your lunch/dinner or simply leaving out dessert.

5. Drink Coffee an Hour Before Working Out

This will help give you energy for your work out & burn fat. Coffee & tea (black) are great antioxidants and known contenders in the race to lose weight. Although here in Pakistan we rely more on tea, so if you prefer tea, go with that BUT do not add any cream or sugar. If you absolutely have to, keep it minimal.

6. Do Squats & Sit Ups

Following cardio, squats & sit ups are the next best thing. I remember my personal trainer keeping me going on the squats for an hour when I used to hit a plateau in my weight loss. These two exercises not only help tone your muscles, but the pressure they put on your body is great for burning fat. Remember, a raised heartbeat means you are burning fat, obviously you need to know what your safe heart rate during a work out is.

7. Ban White Bread & Pasts

This one is everyones everest, especially us Pakistani’s because we LOVE our roti. Well tough luck, because carbs are every girls enemy. And the yeast in white bread causes a ton of fat buildup. So if you do need bread, use chakki ka atta or make sure the bran bread you buy is authentic – from regular pasta switch to wheat pasta. A friend of mine for 2 years only cut out all bread, carbs, yeast and anything “white” from her diet yet continued to eat normally. She lost a great deal of weight simply staying away from roti & bread. You can too.

These were the simplest, kindest and most useful 7 ways for me to put down in a weight loss/weight management blog. If you follow all 7 of these, you will literally see the results within days. Remember, losing weight is never only about looking good, it should be more about feeling good & getting healthy. Make a lifestyle choice, don’t look for a quick way out of your weight. Change the way you think & feel about eating, exercising and looking good. Change the way you feel about yourself. More power to all of you! Until next Monday, have a fantastic week.
